Ananse & The Next Trick?
Posted by Midunu Limited on
A tale as rich as chocolate, as clever as Ananse...
The Harmattan winds swept through Midunu, coating the village in a fine dust, the air crisp and dry with the scent of roasting cocoa beans and smoldering firewood. Families gathered around fires, cupping bowls of Cocoa Nib Chai, their breath visible in the cool air. It was the end of the year, a time for reflection, for storytelling, and for one last celebration before the new year began.
Ananse, never one to let an opportunity pass, had devised his grandest trick yet. This was not just about chocolate, nor even about outwitting the villagers—no, this was about legacy. If he could pull off one final feat, his name would be spoken in admiration, not just mischief.
And so, under the cover of night, he weaved his most intricate web yet—a shimmering tapestry strung between the great baobab trees, catching the moonlight like spun gold. On this web, he hung Rum Coconut truffles, Cape Malay Curry bonbons, and Desert Salt Caramel delights, each glistening under the moon’s glow. If the villagers wanted them, they would have to play his game.
By morning, the village awoke to the sight—a floating chocolate feast, tantalizingly close, yet just out of reach. The people laughed, shaking their heads. "Ah, Ananse," they chuckled, "Always up to something."
But before they could devise a way to retrieve the sweets, a gust of Harmattan wind rushed through, ripping Ananse’s web from the trees. The truffles, bonbons, and caramels rained down, landing in the laps of laughing children and astonished elders. His carefully plotted trick had, once again, turned into a gift.
The head chocolatier smirked as she sipped her West African 5 Spice drinking chocolate. "Perhaps, Ananse," she said, "the greatest trick is learning when to let go."
For the first time, Ananse did not scurry away. He sat among them, cupping a warm drink, sharing in the laughter, and watching as his grandest plan became something else entirely—a moment of joy.
But as the night deepened and the stories wound down, his mind was already spinning. What next?
